Technical Town Hall: Planning application submitted

24.04.2017 - Notes

In mid-April, Karl-Heinz Frings – the director of the Mannheimer Wohnungsbaugesellschaft GBG – submitted the planning application for the new Technical Town Hall. The building project, for which schneider+schumacher won first prize in 2016, is due to start on site in 2018. The head of the building department, Lothar Quast, said: “We are pleased to have received the planning application today. This is an important milestone that shows how the competition-winning scheme has been successfully developed. It now forms an excellent basis for the next stage.”

The new Technical Town Hall will not only provide rooms for the administration, a conference hall and an archive, but will also house a citizens’ advice service, offering an attractive user-friendly environment. The project also incorporates a staff restaurant, a café, and an in-house childcare facility. Some 700 staff are due to move into their new workspaces in summer 2020.
